Front jack stand location Basic help / Confirmation

A question with a simple answer.. I'm prefering not to experiment on this one.

What is the appropriate location/position to place jack stands under the front of a '86 911 Carrera w/o limiting servicability?

Is anything additional required to spread any of the load?
Can a floor jack be used anywhere front of the jack points located towards the rear of the vehicle?

To date the information or pictures I have been able to find regarding the proper support of a 911 has covered placement on the rear beautifully.

Thank you,

Use jack pad on the side or the rear mounting point of the A arm - use wood here & watch you don't jack on the pan. See pg 18 of Wayne's 101 for a pic.

On this particular occasion I jacked it up at the side using jack plates and a floor jack. The Jack plates insert into the holes used for the jack that came with the car. Look closely at the following pic, you will see the jack plate being used with the floor jack

I jacked one side about 75% of the way and moved to the other side and jacked it up as far as I could, then returned to the first side and finished it up.

Also I would recommend that you get the "101 Projects" book available from this website, you will find it very helpful.
