Emergency Flasher Switch Issue

My emergency flasher works fine BUT when I turn the lights on the switch lights very bright continuously. It still works but its kinda aggravating driving at night. I cant imagine that this is the way it should be. Can anyone enlighten me?

I don't have an '88 but I have a couple of '86 cars. The flasher switch on those lights up dimly when the lights are turned on. It only lights up bright when it flashes. Given it's placement in the center console, I can't imagine it being distracting. So, I'd guess yours is doing something funky. I have no idea what. If you have a buddy with a similar car, you might swap the switches and see what happens.
