Carrera power seat issue

I have an 89 Carrera with 8 way power seats. When I attempt to get the drivers seat to move forward or backward, power from the motor is being applied to only one side, and the seat tries to skew rather than moving forward or back. I inspected under the seat and nothing is wrong visually - at least nothing obvious.

Is this likely a switch issue or some problem with the mechanism of the power seat? I did a search but didn't see this problem showing up in previous posts. Also my Bentley manual has no details on the mechanical functioning of the seats. Is any source of information available on how to repair this mechanism?

Any ideas or thoughts would be appreciated.

You will probably have to remove the seat and do a closer inspection - I think there are four bolts and a harness to undo. I'm not sure exactly what the mechanism is, but something is likely jammed/hanging up on one side or there is a broken part. Are there two motors for front to back adjustment or one? I'd look into that first. Could be as easy as a bad connector or a little lithium lube. I have an 85 and the passenger seat is starting to bind a little when the seatback is inclining or reclining, so I may be getting into a similar inspection/repair myself. Good luck and post the details of what you find.

No need to remove te seat, in all likelyood the flex cable from the motor to the affected non working side has pulled out of its housing, pull the front cover to the motor off there will be 3/8 inch diameter black tube that encases the flex cable you will need to verify on the motor end then the seat adj. screw end (by front of affected track)are infact FULLY engaged, Good luck, JOHNNYO P.S. When you reinstall the cable be sure that the seat is not cocked and that the seat slides evenly back and forward, remember that only one side was moving so you will need to make sure that the seat is equadistant on both sides or the sliding action will bind

Thanks, Johnnyo - that was the kind of info I was looking for. I'll give that a try.
