No, but it sounds like you turn one of your cylinders into a big air pump.

My 944 still passes Washington state smog, even though the cat was removed long ago. It's not too tough to pass smog here. Unless you have an early RX-7. But that's another story....... |

Failed by 2X with CO. If you lean it out too much, the HCs rise.

930s are hugely notorious for being hard to pass WA State emissions, FWTW.

If you have an injector with tips welded shut, I heard it works wonders.

I remember someone doing that to pass their smog inspection after failing 4 times.

I had a vehicle fail the sniffer because it had an exhaust manifold leak. Air was getting in and the sniffer detects this.

Seems that having a cylinder air pump would do the same thing, only much more so. On the other hand some cars, including my 77 911, have an air pump that does nothing more than blow fresh air into the exhaust manifold. Go figure. This is in CA so your mileage may vary.

I have been told by a mechanic that if you play with the mixture you can get it to pass. If you are on the high side of the HC then you slightly lean it out and visa/versa. The car may run like dung but it will pass, then reset it back.

Yes but here in Indiana most of the state is not required to do inspections or emission testing. I am not really an advocate of it but hey if you need to buck the system do at your own risk. I am sure it will come back 2 fold then.

One can always try guaranteed to pass additive too.

When my Carrera wouldn't pass I noticed the O2 sensor was unplugged so I was running too rich. After plugging it back in I passed with no prob. If you still have problems passing, scan and post your test results here. Someone here is bound to know exactly what the prob is.

John Walker posted about this last year when I was looking for a way to pass. For what its worth, I needed a cat on my 930 to get by. With the cat it was clear sailing. JP

I first heard that trick for a 3.2 from John Walker. Of course all you have to do on a 3.2 is pull the injector wiring off the injector. The theory sounds good....

I thankfully just finished battling with getting my 930 to pass emissions. As I remember I was 2x the legal limit of burnt fuel and 3x the legal limit of unburnt fuel when I first tested the car. On a more positive note I did pass the fuel filler cap test . I ended up having a muffler shop weld up a small cat and resonator that would fit in place of my Borla muffler. By the good grace of the Porsche gods I passed! I'll try and get a picture of my contraption. Obviously immediately following the test I put the Borla back on!

Cool. Thanks guys, good to hear the experiences.

The catalyst did the trick last year. This is the final emission test - the car will be 25 when the next test rolls around in 2 years - past the required range of tested cars.
