Street tyres?

What's a good all round street tyre?

I need some new 235/40 ZR18 front tyres and I'm not prepared to pay the dollars for Pirelli P-Zero's

I just priced O3s at $160 for 205/55/16...they are getting quite pricey. I talked to Tire Rack and they said prices may go down. I have these and they are very good wet or dry...less noise and decent wear. It is getting hard to find 16 in high performance.

Tires

I Am in hte same situation as you, and have been trying to make the same decision. I currently have Yokos (AVS) on there now and I like them. I am strongly leaning towards going the same route, and I think the price is reasonable, ~$115/per.
If you are looking for something cheaper, I have heard some like the Kuhmos Ecsta 712 Supra. Good Luck.

What about these SUMITOMO'S

Anyone using these? Are they a decent tyre?

They seem relatively cheap, compared to the S03's or P-Zero's etc...

I had those on my BMW 330i in 2002.

They share the tire carcass with the Dunlop SP8000 (Sumitomo and Dunlop are under the same owner) with a different tread - it is a well-engineered tire.

Very nice tire, great wear, and great grip. They did get louder the older they got.

Thanks Emission. The Sumitomo's may be the way to go, for my budget anyway. It's purely a street car, so I don't need fancy R compound rubber

I have those HTRZII on my '85 and I really like them, especially for the price. I do just street driving too and they grip quite well. I have 17in rims and I got them when they were on special for $300 delivered from Tire Rack for 4 tires.

I just picked up a set of 4 for my '87. They don't make the HTRZII for the 16in rim for my sizes. I ended up going with the HTRZ. Ordered them yesterday for $280 for 4 tires.

I think that's cheap... Hopefully, they hold up as well as the ZIIs have.

James,

If I were you, I'd suggest you buy whatever matches the tires you have on the back of the car. It's generally not a real good idea to mix different tires on both ends of the same car.

How about Fuzion ZRi? Check Tire Rack for specs and test results.

BTW ditto Javadog: either get the same as rears or change all 4.

I have the Avons on my SC and Falken Ziex 512's on my BMW, both are relatively cheap and both offer decent grip. The first set of 512's on my BMW lasted 20k miles not good, but not bad either. Both seem fine in the wet also.
