Fuel filter differences?
My car is a stock '78 SC 3.0 and currently has the fuel filter with a Bosh part number of: 0 450 905 016 The Pelican catalog lists this filter for a 1974 (updated) 911 or a 1977. The filter listed for 1978 is: 0 450 905 021 Could the PO have put the wrong one on the car? Just looking for a comment or two from the resident experts before I pick one to order

Looks like the 0 450 905 016 works for years '74 - '79(perhaps '80 as well). Here's a thread on the subject. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/83046-please-help-me-understand-why-nothing-fits-print.html?threadid=83046&perpage=20&pagenumber=1
Seems one filter has an inlet of one size and an outlet with another. ..as opposed to an inlet and outlet of the same size.

I learned about this issue with my old 78 SC. The lowdown is this, on the early production 78 cars, they used the 0 450 905 016 filter, which my car used. When I first ordered a filter for it, I ordered the 0 450 905 021 one and found out it was for the later production 78 models.
You can change the fittings to take the later one, but it's easier to just order the 0 450 905 016 one. Hope I helped. |
