2 in - 1 out SS muffler for 89 3.2 liter Carrera

I have just had the heat exchangers on my 88 3.2 liter Carrera replaced with SSI units. This means going from a 1 in - 1 out muffler to a 2 in - 1 out muffler. I am looking for a nice SS unit to complement the SSI's - but have so far only found a Dansk with a very tiny pencil-dick tip that looks rather silly.

Does anyone have any recommendations? I would like to stay with the "1 out" tip if possible - and this should have a diameter of at least 4 inches.

You should check out M&K mufflers. Our host sells them.
I have a 2 in 2 out just ready when my car is reassembled.

I have the pencil-dick you are referring to. On my car that is. Very happy with the performance and sound. If you don't like the exhaust tip, cut it off and weld on something ricier. Any muffler shop would do this and probably has some tips you might like.

Nice description on that! I suspect I also have the p-dick system.. do a search on resonance/exhaust and you may find out why the dansk is so popular. Many of the "coffie" can mufflers resonate horribly, leading their owners to switch back to something closer to stock, so keep this in mind

I meant no offense! It seems odd that with the all the aftermarket brands and permutations around - no one seems to make a nice SS muffler for 2 in 1 out configuration - with a decent diameter tip.

I'll be selling this 2in/1out muffler in about 2 weeks. I was running it on my Euro 3.2L with headers. Nice sized diameter. Let me know if you are interested in it. I'm putting a 993 engine in, thus the sale.

"At least" 4 inches ?????? ( I mean , really....at "least" ???). So, you mean...like 5" or 6" would be OK ????

I would suggest taking a tape mesure to your car so you can "see" what 4" looks like. It's enormous and almost caricature-like...IMHO

Understand that stock is something like 1.5-1.75"

Oh...and the 917's ended up with something like 2" diameter terminations ( !)

Super large exits not only have the tendency to resonate, but the exit gas velocity drops so low that oil-film smuddging of the surrounding body is a real concern...but to each his own I guess....

Actually, my old muffler (1 in - 1 out) was an original Porsche part (I'll dig out the part number if you are interested) - and it had an 11 cm (or 4.25 inch) diameter.

This was a SS muffler sold by Porsche dealers in Europe (where I bought it) - and manufactured for Porsche by Dansk. I will post a photo of this later. It looked great, sounded great and had no resonance problems. Unfortunately it will not mate with the new SSI's.

IMHO the 3 inch and larger are overkill. The 2.5 tips are more then enough and the factory was only about 2 inches. The dansk are nice mufflers. I would suggest staying away from the flowmaster style set ups as they are way to loud IMO. Good luck

PS- do understand this rather unique issue too.....

The Turbo-Look cars use the slightly different semi-trailing arms that are also used for real Turbos. Real turbo's won't run SSI's...but that mix CAN be used for normally-aspirated 3.2's in Turbo bodies...the "Turbo-Look" cars.

Seems to be the case here....

It's been my experience to see rear shock body interference with this set up...such that the SSI heat exchanger flanges ( horizontal "seam" on the heater- heat exchangers) hits the shocks.....

No real cure for this...expect some scraping unless you can "bend" the HX flanges a bit but risk causing a break....

I also have the p-dick tip on the Dansk. I also have a mig welder. I have switched outlets as it only takes about 10 minutes to cut the old outlet off with a sawzall and weld on a new one, but went back to the 2" outlet as I liked the sound better. I would recommend getting the Dansk for the quality and sound and then put on whatever outlet you like.

Dansk does make a sport muffler for the 3.2 with the SSI setup that comes in either single or dual out 84mm tip(s).

Dansk part number 92.512S (single out)
Dansk part number 92.512SD (dual out)

Available from our host.

You can go to www.jpgroup.dk to see catalog listing and pics.

Why don't you ask Ben (mb911) at MK to make you one with a 4 inch tip? It says on their website (http://www.mkexhaust.com) that they'd do custom stuff, so I'm sure they would. I've heard that these exhausts are the best available.

Guys, guys...the numerous hints for the dual out Dansks using the 84 mm tips just WILL NOT do...I mean...they're ONLY 3.3".

Didn't you hear the man..he wants 4" MINIMUM....what are you all thinking ???
