Swedish barn find

Well, sort of.

Friend of mine, living just around the corner. Use to help each other wrenching and just generally tooling about. I stop by today to tell about my first Porsche drive this spring today. Suddenly he goes - I got a 911 too. What ??!! You never told me ! Well, you never asked...

Turns out, parked at his parents farm for 10 years, he got a 76 Carrera 3.0. 90k miles. Engine stock, never opened. Brown color with Carrera badge.

Alas, not driven in about 10 years but otherwise in good condition. I donīt have pics, nor VIN or engine number.

What do you think ? He might be persuaded to sell. Wonder if there are any parts thats NOT frozen in that engine. What would a car like that be worth over at your neck of the woods ? Lost cause ?

If that's a stock '76 3.0 it may be an RS or something close as I'm not up on the details.

party hearty

ps: oh.. I just saw that you wrote '76 Carrera.

sheriff buford: "son, there ain't no phone in that barn.."
me: "no..a 911..the car..the car.."
sheriff buford: scratches head
me: "a 911..it's a car..made by porsche.."
sheriff: "uh huh..throw me them 'cuffs, roscoe.."

ask and ye shall receive, buddy..this pic is behind my head..sorry the flash ruins it a little. i met the artist, gordon snidow, while my production company in another life was filming in enid, oklahoma. he claimed to have had 'relations' with the subject. no doubt a 'roll in the hay'. i'll leave it up to you to decide whether or not she's 'do-able'..

Markus: I think every sedentary 911 deserves a rescue attempt, regardless of the circumstances. At least roll it out, put in a battery and see if it turns over. Maybe the engine's shot; maybe not. I'm sure there's a thread with the details of how to resuscitate a long-idle engine without destroying it. Have fun with it!

Ryan&Ronin Barn Find Ltd.

And yes I think I will check it out further (the car that is). I think the 74-76 Carrera represent a very attractive model period.

Interesting story Markus - pics are required. I suppose if your purchase and subsequent enthrallment with 911's did not inspire your friend to revive his own barn dweller, he may be receptive to your offer to purchase it,

Thats what I think, Ian. Problem is that model is not common here in Sweden so I have no clue what it is worth. What would a similar car go for in the US ? All thing alike regarding engine health - how would it be prized compared to an SC in the same shape ?

I'm not a good source for model desire except if it has hair on it.

that said.. my routine '77 has very little model value over here in the states. A '76 Carrera 3.0 would hold big value in nice condition. Explain to your friend the expense involved in a likely rebuild and low ball the buy. great story imo.
