Car stuck in reverse?
Went to move my 84, and the transmission is stuck in reverse. I can move the shifter to every gear, but it stays in reverse. Any ideas? Could it just be a loose cable?

sounds like a coupler failure.....remove the cover right behind and between the seats (should be 4 phillips screws) and move the shifter through the gears, if the rear shaft doesn't move then that's your problem. you will need to readjust after the repair if that is the case, waynes "101" book covers this.
maybe do a search of "shift coupler" for more info.

You might try putting the shifter in reverse when you go to hook-up the coupler and then shift it into neutral to set the final adjustment.

Thanks guys, that's what I figured. Looks like I'm fixing a coupler this weekend, at least I've got Wayne's book and Pelican if I get stuck!

remove the backup light switch and push inward on the operating pin to pop the reverse/5th shaft into neutral.
