Sunroof removal?

Sunroof removal?

Can someone give me a step by step or tell me where to find the process for removing a sunroof on an 88 911.

Going from memory here... Open about 1/4 way. Inner cover snaps out at the front. Slide inner cover towards back of car. SR attaches to rails with 2 bolts. I think there is also an adjustment for height in there too. Once loose from the rails/actuators, move towards front of car and pop up. Not much too it. Have done it in an MB and they are all pretty much the same. Lou

Yup - that's pretty much it. It's self explanitory as you start unbolting stuff. Unzip the rear headliner to disconnect the cables from the transmission, you can side the sunroof back and forth manually

Are you contemplating a permanent removal or a temporary one? I just did a permanent removal...

I have been planning a permanent removal, what did you use for the delete? How did it turn out?

We took the outer panel and tack welded it from the inside. I didn't want to repaint the roof just yet, so no bondo. When it warms up I'll fill the gap with high performance silicone caulk. Right now it has ballistic tape (helicopter blade edge stuff) on it.

From this:

Now to this:

Don, tell us about the headliner would you..... I believe you "promised" in an earlier thread. Was the tacking done with a mig or tig? No heat spots showing at all on the outside skin??

Cheers
