extreme technical problem

Not really! I have a Momo gear knob and I wish to instal the remains of a stainless [I think] keyring into the top.as pictured.
Before I find a lathe and try to machine the existing top away,so I can glue the new top in,
does anyone know if these things come to bits? The knob is almost new and I flicked out the top plug to reveal what looks like a centre hole ,but thinking about how they got the leather in suggests that it might unscrew .---Anyone?

One word:

Epoxy.

If it falls out later... then worry about it.

Look at it from the bottom, I have a chepo shift Knob & yea the hole thing comes apart. On mine looking up from the bottom revealed a screw. On yours it might be an alan or torx so keep a sharp eye.

wait for the specialists to chime in.

I can't get a good look at the top of the shift knob, because the photo is a little fuzzy, but you might try uncrewing the top by using a pair of pliers designed to remove and install c-clips.

Had a look up the bum and couldnt see much,so I picked out a rubber sleeve [which is now damaged]
Couldnt see anything like a screw,so I put a long 3/8 socket extension up and tapped it with a BFH.

The brown material which broke looks like wood.
The keyring fits perfectly, so all I have to do is build a bed of epoxy to assemble it and take care when re-installing it on the gear lever.----Problem solved!
