Oil pressure

Car is running great, but it seems to me that my guage may be reading high on rev? what are the usual suspects?

84 911 3.2 stock.

What oil type and weight are you running? What pressure versus rpm do you think is too high? With the engine warmed to operating temperature one should see from 10 to 14 psi per 1000 revs with the increase tapering off at higher engine revolutions. Jim

sure. Castrol 20/50. At low revs its fine, but at about 3500 it reads close to five and so on. I take good care of her, and she seems to be running fine. Wondering if the guage is going funky or if its another thing? thanks for responding.

That's a little high; 5 equals five bar equals about 73 psi and I would expect around 3.5 bar or 51 psi. Is the engine fully warmed up? Oil change interval with natural oils like Castrol 20W50 is 3000 miles.

Do you have the reduced size orifices installed on your cam tower oil lines?

Check and clean the wire at it's connection to the oil pressure sender (in the camtower oil line - right rear of engine).

What you describe sounds a lot like my gauge reading. I have been told its fairly normal (by a local 911 "guru"). Be interesting to hear what the web gurus have to say.

Seems "within normal" range to me...but somewhat hi-ish..not really a problem.

BA always said 1-1.5 bar / 1000 rpm is where you want to be. That would be 15-22 psi / 1000 rpm.

Seeing "5" bar at 3500 rpm+ should indicate a healthy, good oil pressure engine....no ?

Maybe or it could indicate a high resistance wire connection.

(1.5 bar /1000 rpm) x 3.5 thousand RPM = 5.25 bar....

...maybe not .....

what does the gauge do at other rpm's....follow the same 1-1.5 / 1000 rpm profile ???

Are those readings with the car really warmed up?-driven 45 min or so? I find that when the car is really warmed up I get about 1.1-1.2 bar/1k rpm or, around 4bar @3500, but especially with a nice heavy oil like 20/50 it takes a while to warm it up and get the pressure to settle.

i changed the oil and it subsided a little. Still running great. I felt it was a little high. I pay too much attention to this car. Thanks for all input.
