Question Brake Lights Failure, What are the Odds?

Last weekend I pressure washed my wheel wells. Today a co-worker told me that my brake lights aren't working.

I'm positive they were working 2 months ago; my car passed a safety inspection and we checked them.

I did a search on brake light problems and everything seems to point to the switches in the master cylendar.

Seems like more than a coincidence that they suddenly don't work after the pressure spraying. All my other lights work fine though.

Could one of the switches been bad when it passed the safety inspectinon and the other finally failed?

Any thoughts on proceeding with troubleshooting? Should I replace the master cylendar switches as a troubleshooting step or is there a way to Ohm them out?

Thanks, Gordo

Gordo,

The 911 rear lamp assembly is a mud collection trap ... just waiting to have a car wash give it some soapy water to begin the corrosion & shorting act!

Do yourself a favor & begin with removal, disassembly, and cleaning of the entire assemblies ... wiring, sockets, reflectors, etc.

I would be very, very surprized if you find a single bulb [from both assemblies] that isn't corroded!

Mostly due to switch failure. Probably just a coincidence. The switches are the only way the lights work. Washing wheels wells should not affect the lights. Have you looked at the reserve? Does it have fluid?

Dave

EDIT: Ok, what Warren said too.

Chaged Brake Light Switches

Sure enough, that was the problem... I'm back in action.

Thanks for the replies and as always thanks to Pelican for the priceless BBS and parts!

Gordo

BTW, nice thing about ordering from Pelican: I always buy a few upgrades when I'm doing a project. Picked up the Renlinne Dead Pedal. I set it in place and it feels awesome! Perfect fit to the contour of the wheel well and great design for the foot rest. It already feels like it is going to be a great addition/driving comfort improvement. Will be mounting it this weekend.
