? Mounting 28 tube oil cooler

Replacing my trombone with a 28 tube cooler and trying to save some $$ by fabricating brackets. I can't find any pics of one that is installed-does anyone have pics, or an extra set of brackets that you would be willing to sell?

Pat

attn. 78P930; Is a 28 tube an after market cooler? I forget. I went through the 'cooler' part a year ago and have moved on to the interior of my 69T. If it's aftermarket, you will most likely need to fabricate your own mounting system. I mounted mine to the middle of the headlight bucket and fabricated a bracket for the bottom of the battery box. I don't know if this will work as my car is still on saw horses. Come to think of it,the cooler will probably fall off,get wrapped around the tire and burn up the engine. Then I'll crash and flip the car end over end and, well, you get the picture. "Cheers" Roadslayer

Make sure you get a video if that happens. The 28 tube was OE in the 80's, I think. I need to know if the horns need to be moved before I fab something.

dont think you need to move the horns since you dont have a fan in front of it,but you may need the short oilline extns when you mount it up in place of the trombone.

A search will reveal some threads. Many people have fabricated their own brackets. Check out pics is this thread:
Carrera cooler install

Hopefully Bob Tilton will chime in on his install as well.

I had ordered the mounting kit but not much of it worked for me. I think the bulkhead is different on the SWB cars as I could not get the factory mounting bracket to contour the fenderwall. I ended up using the new rubber donuts and two short oil lines from the kit and that's it. I fabricated the L bracket and headlight bracket. Note the bend in the L bracket to get it to fit and you will need to mount it as far forward as you can. Good luck!

I'd buy the stock mounts. You will want it suspended with the wubber mounts. Hard to make that all yourself, unless you have a lot more time than money.

That said, you could get a friend to lend you his car, so you can copy the setup. That's what I did when upgrading to the Carrera cooler.

Cool Home fabricated oil cooler brackets....

I did an oil cooler upgrade on my SC about 18 months ago. Here is a picture of the mounting bracket (without cooler):

and here is a picture with the oil cooler and lines attached:

The cooler is mounted using the Carrera rubber mounts to prevent stress and vibration cracks. The last step was to add a homemade louvered stone shield:

For the sharp of eye, both original horns were replaced with Hella high/low horns that take up much less room.

Fred:

You must have a lot of time on your hands! I thought it was a bit crazy to go through all that trouble, until I checked and saw that the prices for the mounting bits went through the roof. When I did my upgrade the Euro was at around 82 cents, now it is over $1.20. That explains it!
