930 w/CIS - How do you remove the Cold Start Injector?
The title line says it all.
My motor was out of the car for a month while the tranny was being rebuilt. I've got it all together and back in. Just one minor problem - the car won't start. It's getting fuel and spark so I'm going after the Cold start Injector. I've got half my engine torn apart trying to get to those rediculous 5mm female hex bolts. There is no room to loosten them. How is this done????? |
It's going to be very difficult without removing the air flow meter assembly. You might be able to get to it by cutting down an allen wrench for better access, but I've always removed the air flow meter assembly...

I was afraid of that. I did cut down an allen wrench and removed the passenger's side bracket from the air meter assembly. It just barely will not move the top CSI bolt enough to re-possition the wrench to rotate. I need maybe a half inch more travel. This really sux.
I looked at this when I had the motor out and I could not even remove the CSI then!! Question - would a faulty CSI prevent the car fram starting in 65*F temps? I have heard some folks actually removed their CSI. How was this made to work? |

cant you lift the air sensor bar to get a tiny bit of fuel into the system? just to get it to start?
if it were me, i would find out why the CSV is not working first. look for solid contact with the yellow wire at the starter, and did you connect the two wires at the thermoswitch? |
I'll double check the starter wire.
What thermal switch are you refering to? By "lift the air sensor bar" do you mean push down on the Air Meter Plate? |

I just removed my cold start injector last week - it's a PITA. I removed the throttle body on the driver side, and set up a mirror in the engine compartment. After I did it twice, I had it down to a science. The Cold Start Injector gets power through the Thermo-Time switch at the rear driver side of the engine. When the engine is warm, it keeps the injector from running. You should be able to short this switch to by-pass it. You might also try starting fluid to see if it is really a lack of starting fuel that is your problem. By "lift the air sensor bar" do you mean push down on the Air Meter Plate? You can remove the air filter and push up on the Air Flow Plate - with the key on, that will cause the injectors to run. Best of Luck, Rex |
Thanks, but my engine is a 930, everything is different. The airflow sensor plate on the 930 goes down instead of up as it does in the N/A cars. The CSI is located in back of the throttle body and under the airflow sensor assembly. THAT is the problem.

I managed to pull the CSI from my 930 with the intercooler and airbox removed using a severly cut down allen key. I would up cutting it just after the bend, with just a socket head cap screws worth of "depth".
It can be done, but rest assured I cursed and complained a lot during the processs. Hope this helps, Vin |
