Relay Inquiry

This question is related to the already existing thread about the turn signal arrows both flashing when the turn signal is selected.

I am reading that a possible cause of the dual flashing signal indicators could be a bad relay but. . .

Can the relay be bad if
1) Hazzard Lights work
2) Turn signals work

Thanks Gang

It could be the relay. When I first got my 911SC years ago, the turn signal indicators on the dash flashed together, though the signal lights themselves worked OK.

Replacing the relay/flasher unit fixed the problem. I do not know if the old one was bad, or simply the wrong part. I think I remember reading somewhere that there is a different part that will fit, and will work, but has the side effect of lighting both dash indicator lights together.

If your problem just came up (that is, your indicator lights used to flash individually) then I suppose that rules out the theory about having the wrong part originally.

Good luck
Scott

Thanks Scott. Makes Sense. I'll give it a wangle. Do you think it would make a difference if I got the replacement relay at the local car parts store?

I would think a car part store relay should be an equivalent replacement. I believe I ordered mine from one of the Porsche catalog places.

As I recall it is a bit of a pain to get to the flasher, I think I had to pull some gauges out. But it is not a very difficult job otherwise.

Actually I was able to get to it through the front trunk. Pulled the carpet back and there it was near the driver hood lift. I hope this fixes it. Thanks for your help

Now that you mention it I think I went in thru the instrument panel, then figured out it would have been easier to get to from the trunk.

(Fortunately nothing like this has happened with any of my other projects...)
