86 vin number?

I purchased a 3.2 motor from a dismantler in Georgia. He gave me a vin. number that I can't make any sense out of. #64601521 It should be a 17 digit number I believe. Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

Donny,

He gave you an incorrect number. Even a partial VIN number will have a few letters in it, as will the engine number, for an '86. Call him back, tell him the problem you are having and ask for him to look it up again. If you want, you can look at the engine you bought and get the type number and serial number off of that. That is just as useful as the VIN.

Donny,

That sounds a lot like an engine number. If you already received the engine, verify if it matches. He may have misunderstood your VIN questions for the engine serial number ??

The first 11 digits will be "WP0AB0910GS", followed by a 6-digit serial number.

My Porsche family tree says:

Engine # 64G00001-07495 is a 1986 911 Coupe engine with 207hp. My bet is he told you a number 6 versus the letter G!
