Shaved for the first time today.
Had a great time today in NC, Did some yardwork (keep the misses happy) and shaved LS rain gutters. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1143927526.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1143927559.jpg

Nice job! You're a braver man than I.

Nice work!

More detail always nice.....I assume you did the "trim the gutter back 4 inches, mig weld" or did you do something else.
My '89 project has shaving in its future, so all the detail you can stand to type in and/or provide pictures of is greatly appreciated. Shaving is a GOOD thing, anywhere, everywhere, all the time... Dennis |
no rain in NC?

Dennis I took about 6" of gutter off at a time. I used a propane torch and small wire brush to burn out the sealer. (with good ventilation, outside) Air cooled the area and then I MIG tacked every inch and let that cool. After I could lay my hand on the metal I welded every other 1" section, letting it cool for a minute or so in between each one. Then let that all cool until I could lay my hand on it again. Finally repeated the welding and waiting process for the 1" sections that were left, cooled everything and moved to the next 6" section. When I had everything welded I went back and groung it with a 5" grinder with 36 grit and finally a 3" with 50 grit. The biggest thing I fought was the rear area wanted to warp, just had to slow down and let the metal relieve itself. Also found that peening the weld a little helped.

(75) Brother!!
Where are you taking your 75? What did you start with? Looks like you've taken it down to the metal throughout. Track car or ??? What motor?
Here's mine... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1143984293.jpg |
Donny, complete frame off...err I mean bare tub restore. Gotta fix some holes in the pans and smugglers box. I'm thinking of going with a megasquirt injected 2.7l, 993 brakes, and momo seats with 6 point harnesses. And of course, shaved gutters and bumpers. Still gonna be a street car, with the occasional track pass. I would have loved to bring it back to original, but it was too far gone to really make it right. BTW love yours, it is our computer background and inspiration.

DZ,
Sounds like a fun project you've tackled there. It otta be nice and light. Are you able to do the wiring yourself? Wiring has been the area I'm pretty lost in. I stuck with the original look but recently added a 3.2 Motronic, 9.5x1 Ross racing pistons, 964 cams, all new rocker arms, reworked heads, valves, guides and springs, custom Steve Wong chip, test pipe (no smog testing here) Two out exhaust, 964 cams and a bunch of sweet fixer-upper projects. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1143993654.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1143993727.jpg |

Duke, Thats some pretty nice work. I had no idea you were this involved in your project.
In the pics you just posted is that all metal or did you have to use a little filler? Are you staying with the narrow body or going for a fatty? |
Herman- carrera fenders and just a swipe of mud on the seam.
