Pulled A/C from early 911: Wow! It's heavy!
For the weight conscious out there, I've seen numbers for modern cars but not for early ones.
Here is ALL the junk I pulled from my 73.5 T! Who'd have thought there was so much, all the way to the heavy compressor brackets ! http://members.rennlist.com/greg/911t_ac.jpg And the weight ? 78 lbs dry ! If you add all the fasteners I left on to not expose the holes, the compressor belt, a few clips I reused and the refrigerant, you are easily >85 lbs ! And I could not remove the bits that were welded in the nose, including the holder for that round thing at the top of the screen ! I know it's all worthless so I'll probably junk it all/give it away except the row of vents that go under the dash which I hear is actually worth something !!! Anyway, passing it along !! 80 pounds, wow ! |
took mine out to years ago...always wondered how much the stuff weighed.
Thanks |
Greg, how much do you want for that AC vent?
Whole lot? What part of the country are you? Thanks ... Karl |
Greg:
I could use one or two of the aluminum valve caps from the compressor if they are in good shape. |
KarlusMagnus, I'm in Tampa, FL. I am really not sure what the AC vents are worth and I hate to guess, but several people have offered to buy them. Interestingly nobody ever mentioned a price ;-) Ebay ? Any ideas out there ?
Whole lot ? Dirt cheap but shipping would be a pain and might cost you more than it's worth @ 80 lbs! - well the hoses could be cut or disconnected, they are worthless anyway but the rest is still heavy, particularly the compressor. Everything worked fine when I pulled it, but it was losing charge over time and it was time to recharge or remove.... I'd think It'd be a pain to reassemble the whole lot without guidance !! >aluminum valve caps from the compressor I have no idea what those are, got a picture ? |

First bid $9.11 |
Good work Greg! It's definitely a noticeable difference and makes maintenance MUCH easier! Now if only I could find a way to dump all this crap...

Greg,
My spec books for '69-'71 and '75 give the air con unit weight as approx 35 kg which translates as around 77lbs. Cheers, Dennis.:) |
