Next question of the day, idle when hot is about 500 but will go to 950 ocationally

I have replaced the cap, rotor, plugs & air cleaner, cleaned the idle control valve, had the valves adjusted and soon will replace the plug wires. What else could cause such a low idle rpm? Could a shot O2 sensor cause sucha poor idle (its rough most of the time)? The engine does get a wee bit noisy when warm, mostly valve noise I think but the weird thing is it purs very nicely sometimes and sounds like a diesel other times ... Thoughts? I am really hoping the valve guides are not shot!!!

Unplug your 02 sensor and see if your idle changes. I have one of the strangest issues I have ever seen on a CIS equipped car and it turned out to be the 02 sensor. Get it warm and idling. Then turn the car off and unplug the 02 sensor and start it back up and see if it makes a difference.

The 3.2 is known to have vacuum leaks where the intake manifold mounts meets the heads. Also try the unplugging the o2 sensor like others have said.

Cheers
