Spark plug wrench length?
 

Are there different sized spark plug wrenches? I think the one that I aquired is too long for my car. Do I need the shorter one for a 1985 3.2?

Use the one in your tool kit. It's designed for your car, and works perfectly.

There's the rub. Missing. As is the tire compressor. I am trying to collect the parts that I am missing and tracked down a sparkplug wrench but I think it too long..

I found that a 3/8 drive ratchet on a regular plug-wrench with rubber insert on a 4+1 inch extension worked for me.

use a locking ext.

the R rear one is the tighest IIRC

Nice car did you just pic it up? I actually make sales calls out in Peterborough at Siemens and Hispano Suiza. I was planning on heading up a few times in my P-car this summer to do calls on Fridays. If you are up for it, we should do a spirited drive through the Peterborough twisties some time.

Don't know about the Carrera, but I had to use 2 three inch extensions, Both to break the plug free and unscrew most of the way and then one only to extract it. A 6" wouldn't make the turn out of the sheet metal and I guess I don't have a 4". Never seen one, in fact. The factory tool is the best and won't come apart to lose itself down on the head or wherever they go.

Maybe an articulated plug socket would be good too. I mean other than the factory tool.

If you use extension, sockets etc. make sure you tape the parts togeter. You will loose them inside the hole. They are not easy to retrieve. Don't ask me how I know:D

It has to be around 5" altogether.
I just checked: I use a 4" with a 1" extension together on a 3/8 locking ratchet with a regular plug-wrench.
Like Randy says: It all has to be locking and stretch for that #6.
I also use anti-seize on the threads eventhough Porsche doesn't recommend it.

Snap on makes a 4" extension...tape the socket to it. Another option is one of these...but they've gone past the $50 mark in price:

and.. there are various ultra-long spark plug sockets made by SK, Snap-On and Stahlwil

for regular size plugs there are lots of options - stock tool prob. best

for small 5/8" plugs like I have the options are narrowed but still have several.
