I have heard of a few with north of 200k.

I think you can find MANY 3.2s and 3.0s over 200k miles. I just turned 179k yesterday

Still drive it everyday, to the track and back, AX etc.

996 and Boxsters are worms unless you can afford a new PST ($10K+) for sorting out electrical gremlins. Also access to top of engine is ludicrous by any standards. Just personal dislike for opening the engine cover to look at black plastic pieces instead of the familiar air cooled fan and reasonable access to top of engine. The only decent 911 out there today is the GT3 and Turbos which are out of most people's budget. The Cayman S is attractive as a used car purchase for the advance suspension, tire, and drivetrain advancement this car brings to the track junkie.

964 is fab, not as bad as people make out.
the control boxes for the air blowers and the abs are a bit black boxey and your only option is to unplug it and plug a working one in,

mechanically they are fab, the engines are great - even the leaky 89-91 engines.

drive wise they are a world away from the 3.2 and the power is fab.
brakes are a blessing.

I dont think the 993 is worth the extra just for its looks the 911 3.2 to 964 is a big enough step to modern porsche ownership.

service wise you can do all your own servicing on the 964 and 993.
With support like this forum I dont think there are many jobs you cant do.

I think not having to adjust the valves is worth the extra cost. I agree with everything else you say.
