ball joint pin always flush with strut?

I've just installed two new ball joints and their retaining pins. When I removed the old pins, the blunt end were both flush with the face of the strut. The ew ones though don't go all the way in. One side protrudes about 1mm, the other side about 1.5 mm. Shoudl I be worried. I was smacking it hard enough to just mushroom the end so I really couldn't get it in anymore. Anyone else experience this?

ps - just read wayne's book and it says to tighten the pin until the back of the pin is almost flush with the strt. I rekin I'm ok.

NO!!! It doesn't say that does it? According to Grady (in the other thread) the torque on that nut is 16.2 ft-lbs.
