Carrera Cooler Fittings

I was wandering around the Elephant site and noticed the enlarged oil cooler fittings that they offer.

After doing some measuring of my fittings and the hoses that lead into them I determined that I have the restrictive fittings.

My question is can you just take the existing fittings and have the openings enlarged?

It seems to me that you could toss them on a lathe and open them up. Am I missing something?

Rich

I was thinking the same thing when I did mine a while back, but decided (with some engineering advice) that it wasn't worth the effort. Not to disparage any of ER's superb R&D and products, but I don't feel that the modest "restriction" from the stock fittings or the "extra flow" from the widemouth fittings are felt benefits for the average car/track application. Perhaps in a seriously modded car that is marginal in it's cooling capacity, this little bit may help. But if you do the other simple things like insure proper intake to the cooler and seal the cavity to assure air flow exclusively though the cooler, you will have no problems (unless you have that highly-modded engine, of course). FWIW, I have had zero cooling issues with my SC on 95+ degree track days with my carrera cooler properly plumbed ...and this includes a small, tight track where you are constantly kissing redline, braking, and speeds are overall lower so the sheer volume of cooling air is less. Hope this helps.

Edward
