3.2 swap; fuel leak at pump
Ok, I finally installed the 3.2 in 73 911T and now my latest problem is a fuel leak at the fuel pump. It's a brand new pump from PelicanParts #944-608-102-04 and I appear to have everything installed correctly but when I turn on the ignition and hear the pump running fuel will leak right at the banjo fitting.
The cap nut and sealing rings are not new and appear to be fine, I also loosened the fuel filter connection to the motor and noticed there is fuel running all the way back so now I know that the line is not pinched. I lowered the fuel pump where it's mounted just so I could take a clear pic so please don't be alarmed. Can anyone see what I'm doing wrong with this application? Is it possible there is a different size cap nut or new sealing rings are needed? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks, Tim G.

i can't remrmer if there are copper washers on both sides of the non return valve. But isn't there two of them?

Yeah, there is one on each side of the banjo fitting and they are both copper (I know it's hard to see from this pic). I looked up these parts on pelican and the diagram shows where they belong.
jbrinkley, when you say "return valve" do you mean the item that the banjo fitting is attached to? Thanks, Tim G |

I believe jbrinkley is saying check valve. It keeps the system pressurized. Same as non return valve.

Isn't there a rubber "O" ring that goes on the check valve that screws into the fuel pump?

so you were able to attach the supply line to the nipple at the bulkhead? Do you know if it was a factory line? If so, from what year car? I thought the banjo was integrally attached to the line that went through the tunnel on the Carreras.
Ive got a banjo from one of those lines, but I thought I was going to have to get someone to fab up a line that I can attach to the bulkhead. I can make mine work, I was just curious what others were doing. This weekend I realized the banjo is the same banjo thats used on a cam tower oil line so there are a few different possibilities for fabbing the line up. the lines are factory but I'm not 100% what year car they are from. I mentioned to Robert at DC Auto what year the motor I installed into the car and this is what he sent me. When you say "supply line to the nipple at the bulkhead" you mean at the engine compartment? If so, everything at that end is attached ok. What motor did you install in your car? Now you got me thinking if there is a difference in the size on the banjo fitting. I could call Robert and ask him what year the lines are and if there is a difference. Thanks, Tim G |
