Exclamation CONFESS your spending addiction on your baby

Do you feel the need to buy something for your car on a regular basis?

Do you go into withdrawals if no new parts have arrived in a week, month, every other month?

Do you try to 'play down' or hide your purchases from your wife, sig-o, whatever?

Do you feel slightly ashamed of sneaking a part or two, but are just too delighted to get that new part?

Then confess your spending addiction, here with your brothers, and receive absolution, so you can spend again with a clear conscience!

My wife, "I see you know the FedEx guy on a first name basis. Is there something you need to tell me?"
I lamely reply, "Uh, not really.... we are uh... just both into driving, so to speak."
My wife, "I see" She shakes her head.

My wife, "What's in today's box?"
Me, "A new more period correct steering wheel called a Prototipo".
My wife, "Don't you already have the original plus the one already in your car?"
Me, lamely, "Uh, well this one is more true to the period, and I will be selling the other one (yeah right) on ebay".
My wife, "I see" She shakes her head.

Yes, I start to go through withdrawals if I don't buy something new every couple of weeks. If you have more than one car, then you have troubles deciding which car is more deserving. "An upgrade would be nice, but the other really needs..."

CONFESS and see the light!!

If I answer yes to all the questions, do I get more points? Is that bad?

Maybe we should start a support group. 'PPPA' for Porsche Parts Purchasers Anonymous (say that three times fast).

Man I never thought it could be put so clearly into words. i have the parts shipped to the office so she doesnt even see the delivery :-). She is sly though she keeps a mental inventory of shiny parts in the garage and catches me almost every time.

Do you guys ever forgo routine maintenance for a new/used go fast part? i.e. my baby needs a rear wheel bearing but there is a smokin deal on a rear sway bar in the classifieds that would really be so much better than the stock non adjustable!! :-)

I have a separate Porsche account to control my spending, and make sure I have food on the table every day I transfer a set amount from my cheque account every month. Sad I know, but that way I only spend what I can afford on my beloved P-car!

Cool

Used to get parts delivered 3-4 times/week. I have managed to cut back to a couple of purchases/month. I could see a recovering addict stating: "I only have 2 a day". -ha.

Althouhg, I'm not so interested in fiddling with the small stuff anymore but tend to save to larger projects such as wheels, exhaust, suspension, paint --- another p-car...

I see the p-car habit keeping me out of harms way in regards to going to bars and 'things' associated with that environment

We're like women and their shoes fer gosh sakes. I'm one of them too-especially before DE's I always feel like I've got to have 'something new and different' on the car.

I tell myself, I will not anything for a month or two just to save up some extra cash for house or yard projects which need doing. Then I see someone else's car with a really cool, this or that... or a catalogue arrives, or I hear about a better way to engineer something with a couple of parts, or..... the house project can wait for winter.

Are you kidding me?

Apart from the money pit project I recently bought a 993.
My wife "agreed" to the purchase at the condition that the car would stay stock...

I am 3 weeks into ownership and I couldn't hold it any longer...
So a set of new 18' wheels is on its way, it will be followed by an RS splitter, C2S split grill, PSS9, RS shifter, u name it...

But as you said I am going to spread it over time... because the answer to all the above question is YES.

What I find strange is that I never felt the urge to touch/improve/modify my CLK AMG...
I guess the Porsche thing really got me!

Apparently Charles has trouble expressing how he really feels about being divorced.....

Charles, I am a member of your club and couldn't agree more. I buy (or do NOT buy) any damned thing I want. My girlfriend of 6 years and I pool money for the house/utilities/joint expenses in an agreed amount. ALL OTHER DOLLARS are mine to spend as I want. On myself, on my kids, etc. - As are her dollars. I don't care how many shoes she owns or what she spends on a purse - have at it sweetie I love you. I'm not your father and I refuse to be. I'm not your budget director either.

As long as she can make her part of our joint expenses I have ZERO opinion on what she buys. Personally, if I'd had this agreement during my 20 years of marriage I'd...well?...probably have 26 years of marriage (NOT!)

I have to confess I just placed my 'big' Pelican order after researching it for the last six months. It was an easy decision: fix the sideswipe damage on the passenger side of my Honda OR put $850 of suspension upgrades and other goodies on my Carrera. Took about five seconds to get to that epiphany! (I never use that side of the Honda anyway)
I share in the fun of the 'piss off the ex' sentiment - too bad she didn't understand what a quit claim deed was when we refinanced the house and duplex. Oh well, live and learn.

i have a great situation w/girlfriend. she has her place -i have mine. she has her money-i have mine. she has her job-i have mine. when we get together we have FUN, pure and simple. heres the reasons arguements occur in any marriage or relationship.

1) money. solution...both of you have separate accounts(no joint accts). say monthly bills are a $1000 bucks. you both throw $500 at bills. problem solved.

2) SEX. one of you will want sex more than other. solution..........have no sex or have more sex. end of subject.

3) housework. one of you will be slob and the other a clean freak. solution............hire a maid! solved.

4) kids. one spouse will lay down the law, the other has to carry out punishment. one will be strict, the other spouse will be lax. solution...........send kids to private military academy! solved!

so with that in mind, everyone should get along just fine, we can all buy lots of parts for our porsches and the world is a better happier place! and divorce lawyers will go out of business and join the ranks on the welfare lines where they belong! LOL!

Yup, I've got it bad.

When my car needed a transmission fix that would cost several k I decided there was no better time than that to upgrade the shifter with a wevo unit? Never mind it was like $500 more. At least it got buried in the bill.

A few weeks ago my wife said my wheels looked old. YES! she's absolutely right. We've got to do something about it. By the next day I had already sent Mike Lindsey an email to get some P3's for my car that I had bee drooling over for some time. I can already see myself when she looks at the invoice, "But honey, YOU said they looked old and I want to please you."

I still have some parts laying around that need install. Gotta save something for when I can't get my fix of ordering stuff.

I think most on this board share the same plight. Oh well, as they say, loved hurts and I LOVE my Porsche 930.

Im so bad I bought a new f350 and 24 foot enclosed trailer for the 2 cars I have, and the sad thing is neither of the cars even run yet, as for the earlier reply about divorce, isnt it grand ! BTW, Ive taken my X to court to try to collect $20,000 in retro child support, how much of that I will spend on the pcars if I collect? probably all of it.
