Fabspeed fit problems solved???

I called fabspeed today to purchase a cat bypass and dual out system for my 88 3.2 911 carrera. When I was told the total cost of 1,300+ I suddenly remembered reading post where some have had problems with fit. I decided to revisit the form to see if these issues have been resolved.

Any success or fail stories about fabspeed exhasuts?

Thanks

have heard rumours they are built off-shore now...........china or taiwan???

chibone_914 04-05-2006 02:00 PM

Taiwan, and I still can't get a straight answer from Jay about where they are being made! He says here in the US but he doesn't disclose what city or state....and we're his vendor!

charleskieffner 04-05-2006 02:41 PM

well maybe i heard this from someone in the industry, like very close to that particular industry..............LIKE MAYBE IN THAT EXACT INDUSTRY that they found documentation of this. i will not name names or point fingers, but considering i spent a long and exhausting (get it) search for my exhaust system i found some interesting things about claims of hp, decibels, weight, etc. all i really know is i got to watch my exhaust actually get made in front of my eyes by little elves who did an outstanding job of fit and finish at GHL here in phx. funny how one other mfg. is here also..........and i have first hand knowledge of his biz practices and chose death to EVER buying their products. but the best part was when i went to PIR(thats all that really matters) and was told by numerous people how well my car sounded at mega warp speed. thats my story and i am sticking to it! and if i have to i will plead the 5th if need be!!!!!! this e mail will self destruct in 20 seconds!

hmmmm... i about to buy one the fabspeed cat bypass muffer . I see on the web site they say it made in usa. I guess , i will wait a bit to see if you guy find out where is it made

charleskieffner 04-05-2006 02:55 PM

my cat by-pass was made by lil elves right in front of my bloodshot eyes one morning at GHL in phx arizona by documented UNITED STATES CITIZENS! and it works wunderbar! usually have in stock on shelf, if not following day. great people great product..............if it wasnt i wouldnt waste my breath let alone time let alone hunt and peck on the puter about them! plus i think der pelican sells them.................remember weight in shipping costs bucks!

aleng888 04-05-2006 03:04 PM

I will check them out. But the only reason i was think fabspeed was there cat-bypass-muffer cut down on the sound a bit more then just a pipie alone. cop in my area give out ticket if your car make too much noise.

+1 for GHL
Excellent product, fit and finish

aleng888 04-05-2006 03:09 PM

I just went o ghl web site. I can not find a cat-bypass-muffer for a 1985 3.2 . you sure they make one.

chibone_914 04-05-2006 03:22 PM

Use pn# PEL-911CTP, $298.10

Puka Puncha 04-05-2006 03:56 PM

I was about to place an order for the fabspeed unit within the next week. So don't do it?? Go with the GHL pn# PEL-911CTP instead?

I have the FabSpeed cat by pass and muffler. I like and I think it sounds really good.

John Walker isntalled it so I cant say anything to how easy it was.

At 120 Mph in 5th gear I am at about 5K RPM's, and when I step on it the car still has pull...w00t!

I don't get any resonance or drone and its quite tame at lower RPM's and come to life at higher RPM's. But right now I just have the single out opened up.

I have a vid clip of it on the Dyno so you can hear it.

It does have moreof a muscle car sound and less of a raspy itallian car sound. I think FabSpeed still has vid clips on their website of a car in action.

I just look at the ghl cat bypass pipe . it a pipe only. I need some cut down the sound. so i guess i go with the fabspeed.

I have a fabspeed pre-muffler and I think the build quality is very nice. Thick, straight flanges, very clean welds, nice heavy gage stainless walls and no problems during install.

Craig Stevens 04-05-2006 05:00 PM

I Have both GHL & fabspeed. The GHL is a straight pipe. The Fabspeed has baffels. the GHL is Loud & sounds great. the Fabspeed is not as loud has some back pressure & also sounds good. I have used them both with a GHL single out muffler. The build quality on both the GHL & Fabspeed bypass pipes is good. Craig

the only way i can explain the sound or noise emitted is.........i had to go about 3 clicks up on volume on my alpine cd/amp/4 spkrs from a stock OEM dansk exhaust system in my cabri-o-lei! remember to buy brand new gaskets when you install. remember also how much an entire exhaust system weighs shipping from right coast to left coast. another clue to GHL's quality was how clean the shop was, always a clear sign that someone gives a damn about potential customers just popping in to view mfg. process like myself. after tour and consultation.......................i signed on dotted line! and to be real damn honest............i want to hear my engine at WOT thru my baclava and BELL FA VORTEX helmet, cuz i sure as hell cant take my eyes off of the track to look at tach!!! funny thing about last track session, everyone wanted to know how fast i went...............I HAVENT A CLUE with the exception of the sensation of being strapped to nosecone of an ICBM about 6" from PIR's front and back straights wall!

diabolos88 04-06-2006 01:15 AM

I also was going Fab til I read the China posts. So I went GHL instead headers/muffler on my 930. I'll be driving to their shop for the install. Ive heard the Fab 930 dual, sounds nice and looks well built, although the China situation made me lean towards GHL. GHLs factory is indeed pretty clean for all the inhouse fabbing they do.

the owners are pretty cool and while shooting the breeze with them in came a guy i used to work with at johnson bozzani porsche......................his name is jack...............of jacks stuttgart porsche in tempe! they did my install. perfect. when i had my appt on way down to tempe from carefree stopped at north snobbsdale porsche and by god they had new gaskets on the shelf! i bought a unit that i felt i would NEVER have to screw with EVER in my life! after reading mass quanities of threads and testimony regarding a certain few mfgs. crap Q.C.(quality control) shipping a complete system, and possibly having to ship back at my cost should their be any fit finish Q.C. problems, i decided on GHL.....................cuz i could always drive up with 6-pak, and have them repair or replace instead of me throwing wrenches into the dezert at 3 am mad as hell!

diabolos88 04-06-2006 09:42 AM

hey charleskieffer

u in Phoenix? /Im stationed here for couple months for my job. I also met Jack, cool guy...knows his Pcars:)
Id like to hear your cat bypass before I get my exhaust put on. Is it GHLs version of Fabs York tube?

charleskieffner 04-06-2006 11:47 AM

wow it looks chromed or polished? and has bung for o2 sensor and it bolts right up and i was told "DO NOT FORGET TO PUT CAT BACK ON BEFORE EMISSIONS!" beyond that cant think of anything else. it works!!!! oh yea and it gets real damn hot and stays that way a long time(my arm can testify to that!) sounds great w/ghl exhaust single out. didnt need duals like i thought i did after speaking to jack right in front of ghl boys. also if you would like some more super secret stealth i take the 5th info on other mfg.s please e-mail me. if its good its real good, if its bad........well its real damn bad! call them the way i see them. and yes i am in phx and my car will be on the road terrorizing road bikes animals and anything else in the food chain this weekend after being in body shop this week for foo foo touch up doll up! its one of those beautiful chamber of commerce weekends coming up so g/friend and i are going to burn up valuable fossil fuels.............top down, pic-a-nic basket, ice chest, blanket..............need i say more! its a porsche damn-it.......... I dont stare at it like its in a museum..............I DRIVE IT!
