What sealant to use for oil pressure sender?
Help!
My 964 C2 oil pressure sender is leaking. I am chaning the o-ring seal. In addition, what sealant should I use to prevent further leak? Locktite 574? Curil-T? Gasket maker? I am thinking of putting the sealant on the mating surface of the sender to the block. See pics. thanks, anthony |

O ring dressing, i.e. DowCorning 111. Or as randy said, engine oil ...
Do NOT put any RTV or similar on there. That's shade tree procedure if you do not want to put a new o-ring. It may also end up in your oil spray nozzles - not good. George |

No, it is not the same. Do not use it. The DowCorning is more of a "vaseline" to help install and keep the o-ring smooth. It is by all means not necessary, but it is nice to have around on an engine that has TONS of O-rings.

On pipe threads, I use Loctite PST. It's a paste-like teflon sealer as opposed to teflon tape which I don't recommend. Carroll Smith recommends this too.

An O-ring should seal all by iteself - it is designed to do that. You can even run quite a bit of pressure differential. Also, people that measure the increase in O2 use for a small bird hopping or even an ant running on a treadmill use O-rings. The infiltration is that low...
I bet you can look up some nice diagrams on the web - wiki? - re how they work. Bottom line - if it doesn't seal with just a bit of lubricant on it, then something is wrong. So, use a new ring of the correct size, and check the bore and the channel. Do not use any sealant or goop etc.

If you have any RTV now would be a good time to gather it up. It's OK, we'll wait.... Now toss it in the trash. ![]() Sorta kidding, but seriously for Porsche motors it's the work of the Devil. The little RTV "boogers"/crumbs that it produces can block the very tiny (pin holes really) piston squirters and camshaft spray bars. -Chris

Thanks for the advice. I'll guess I'll just use the new Viton o-ring only.
