Question Q. MC handling/fluid levels while calipers disconnected for service. advice required.

Two questions.

I'm waiting the arrival of four calipers as backup plan and rebuild kits for the current calipers and have a near drained brake system currently.

Q1. Will the Master Cylinder be damaged if the system is not sealed and fluid filled if left sitting for a few weeks?

I'm approximately a week out from recieving the calipers and about the same on rebuild kits but would like to continue tear down on all four corners.

Q2. If the system should be kept filled what fittings have people attached to the hardlines to keep air out, fluid in.

If the system can be dry for any length of time I imagine any sort of MacGuyver factor would do to keep contaminants out? like some small balloons?

I'd like to do the right thing here as I cannot afford to lose a MC this month.

-Ivan

Waiting should not pose any problems. Cap any open ends and keep the reservoir cap in place to prevent any migration of moisture into the system.

Near drained system tells me none of the metal surfaces are exposed.

Capping..

Is there a particular brass/metal fitting based on a thread type I could ask for to accomplish this on all four corners?

The balloon/zip tie method isn't working for me, unless the system is let to drain first it would seem.

Clamp the reservoir vent tube and screw the cap on tightly. The closed vent should prevent the fluid from dripping out. Once this is in place, I'd think your balloon and lock tie method would be sufficient.

Or just allow the system to drain, then seal the circuit openings. After the calipers are installed, bleed the system. How long do you plan on leaving it like this - weeks, months or years?
