Exhaust questions and Calif Emissions

Hello, Just a couple of questions from a first time owner:

I simply cannot take it anymore having my 911 sounding like a VW Beetle

Can somebody please recommend a complete performance exhaust system that is bolt on and heater compatiable (my car has the temp dial on the floor if that makes a difference) I would prefer a dual inlet/outlet and the system doen not need to be polished or stainless.

People referring to Thermal Reactors I am assuming that they are Catalysts?

My car is a 1976 911S 2.7L/915 and it is originally from California, it has a complete and functioning air pump system, but what seems kind of weird is that there is a sticker in the drivers side door jamb that states "NON CATALYST" I would assume that a Calif emissions car with an air pump would also have cats on it?

Thank you.

that is a toughie. you want to get rid of those, but you still need to pass smog. if it were me. i would concentrate on an answer to that, rather than the sound of the motor. those things get red hot, i heard.

SSIs are the class act.

The car is from Calif. -- but do you need to be Calif smog certif. or not? Where are you?

ssis are the answer and a good stainless steel muffler. You can't go wrong any aftermarket manufacturer has some good sounding mufflers

You will need the following

1 right ssi heat exchanger
1 left ssi heat exchangers
2 oil lines 1 in solid and the other is rubber and is the scavange line

1 muffler.

Depending on what car you can gain as much as 20 hp with this upgrade

Read down the below link to the referenced links. Changing to SSI's transformed my California 1976 911S. One can reuse the stock muffler or go to something else. Save the emissions control system parts as they are NLA and will likely be valuable to someone in California or other emission inspection states.

Randy is right, SSI's are the way to go! Don't know about a muffler, as I am still runnning a stock muffler.
I have a 77, and switched to SSI's. Better performance, better heat, better sound, and not so much heat generated by thermal reactors so close to the engine.
I believe that it says NON-CATALYST because they did not have a cat, they had the thermal reactors. This actually works in your favor if you ever do need an emission test, cuz they shouldn't need or require a cat to be there.

No oil lines need to be changed with the 1976 2.7l engine. Air injection system and lower EGR must be pulled and plugged/blanked.

That's handy.

I'd suggest the muffler made by Ben and sold here (mb911). It has gotten great subjective reviews and is very reasonably priced. I have not seen performance data i.e. dyno runs on it. The alt. is a Monty which is a good choice for power and sound but has gotten very spendy, or a stock muffler which is much quieter and produces more power than most aftermarket items.

decide on whether you want 1 or 2 outlets - more noise but no more power with 2.

dual outs IMHO are a waste they do nothing but make them louder.

"What Ben said..."

Not exactly, the oil lines do not have to be changed on a '76 when installing SSI's.
