Question to body under dash expert

My car (87) has a big leak in the footwell area (both sides) and after many attempts, I found that the leak is comming right around the big fan hose from the dash to the footwell.

On the windshield, I seal it completely; although I made a big mess but at least I know water is not comming from there. On the door jam wiring wholes, I stick a lot of silicon there but not sure if it sealed. Another most suspected place I can see is the front vent gril, right below the windshied and top/center of the front hood. I am not supprise if originally this place should have something to stop the water and my car is missing it.

Anyone has stripped the dash off before? If so, you probably have an idea where possibly water come from to get to inside the dash.

Thanks a bunch.

Sorry for my bad english !
I am not a expert !
did you check the drain under the air blower ?
try to spray water in it slowly with hose like when you drive in rain.

I am interested in this answer because every time I drive in the rain (which is rare) or wash my car, water drips out of the driver's side footwell vent.

I had this same trouble in until just recently. A replacement of the windsheild and associated gasket fixed the issue. It is hard to tell if you've got the trouble liked with a tube of sealer.

Raynald,
yep, your English seem bad but better than mine

I checked. There is a drain whole with no hose but this water source is above that. It follow the big fan hose comming down from the above dash. The drain whole is below there and to a little toward the outter side.

Does part #1 go RIGHT BEHIND the front grill (right below the winhshield and on top of the front hood)? The grill I am talking about is external. I don't think I see that part (#1) on my car. I remember I look through there once and see a bunch of wire and things like relay.

450knotOffice,
look like your and mine have the same problem. Not the same place water is comming out but the same source of water comming into the dash.

cygtoad,
Thanks. I posted up here several times, without being clear as this time, and most there are several response reading the windshield. To make sure it is or it is not, I used silicone to seal both edges of the windshield gasket completely. I made a big mess. It look ugly now but I want to make sure where the water comming from and I think it's not from there, at least on my car.

Thanks

Can some one confirm with me if part#1, 2, and 3 go right behind part#11, the grill?

When I take off the grill, I don't see any part at all. It's all metal (like chassis). I stick my hand in there and it goes right down below, not curving upward. Am I missing some part there?

What is this grill/vent for? Air to behind the dash? What is it for? The dash doesn't need cool air right? Can I just cover the grill whole completely to stop water come into the dash?

Thanks.

well, there you go...If you open the trunk there should be a fiberboard cover protecting or hiding the back of the dashboard. It is held in place with 4 bolts, two on the top and two on the bottom. If the cover is there, remove it. Now you should see part number 6 which is attached to part number 1. Part number 2 is a rubber seal. Now, if all of this stuff has been removed then when it rains water enters the car thru the fresh air vent [parts 11 and 13] and drips everywhere.
If all of the above equipment is in place then water enters the fresh air vent and is captured in the fresh air plenum [part #1]. The water collects at the bottom and drains out of thru the hose part [number 4].
Again, if the fresh air system hasn't been removed then I would look at the seal [part 2] and also look to see if the hose [part #4] is in place and draining out of the bottom of the car. The hose is long..18 inches or so and travels from the nipple on the base of part number 1 thru the smugglers box and hangs out of the bottom of the car.

Mysterytrain,
Thank you very much. I will search for these this weekends.

From the trunk, is it possible to get my hand to part#4, the drain hose?
Thanks.

Spent couple hours playing in front of the hood with a friend, found that my part# 1, 2, 3, and 4 (the hose) are all there. So, the leak is still mystery
