Windshield is easy, the search feature will give you a ton of info. The metal seal gets inserted before you mount the windshield. There is a later year seal that doesn't require the metal but I can't ever remember what it is. Copy and past this for your sort. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/search.php?action=showresults&searchid=1873149&sortby=lastpost&sortorder=descending

I believe the later year seal is the 964? I think you can use the 964 seal with the existing windshield but I've heard if you want to use the 964 seal on the back window you have to change to the 964 glass.

I just replaced my front windshield this weekend with one from PPG. I decided not to use the metal trim and instead used some #8 black coated electrical wire from Home Depot. Another Pelicanite suggested this in an ealier thread. It worked well and I like the look. Had my wife pulling the string while my daughter and I held the windshield in place. Use two wraps of the string in case you miss a spot as you come around. I'll try to post a picture tonight.

Hope these come through OK

PS: The windshield was about $124.00 from Safelite, PPG brand.

George i love your enthusiasm, but i rather you have your car finished or shall i say up and running before working on mine....also since the leather on my dash has shrunk,i want to wait and figure out that dilemma, and im totally lost with that .

rw7810,

Did you use anything special to put the #8 gauge wire in? i as well have no trim as the folks who replaced my seal were idiots.. As i can't install the trim now, I went to purchase the wire, but it doesn't seem to want to stay in place. Did you lube it at all?

I used some "wire pulling lube" and a screen spline roller to push the wire in to the trim slot.

Mark - Let me know how it goes, I'm doing mine also.

I have wire lube (I'm near the airport) if you need some.

Where would I find wire lube? I purchased the #8 wire last night, and couldn't really put much time into it, but I did spend about 10 minutes trying, with no success. I plan to try it today/this evening.

I'm in the beaches.

Didn't even bother putting anything into the groove where the metal strip goes. Looks better IMO without it and no leaks at six months.

It's not so much the leaks I am worried about as it does nto leak right now. It's more that I don't want any water to accumulate in the frame area and start to promote rust.

I have used vacuum line in place of the trim with much success on two windshields, it goes in real easy with a bit of dish soap and once its in it looks fantastic. Also keep in mind guys that the purpose of the aluminium trim in the first place is to keep pressure on the walls of the seal groove acting as a lock strip so it is probably not a good idea to leave the groove empty.
