Cam lobe pitting
When I adjusted my valves today I observed some pitting on two of the cam lobes. See the pictures below. My plan is to just continue using the car as before, but I will take a look at the cams each 5000 miles. What has caused this and is it "normal" or very uncommon on this type of car? Any comments will be appreciated. The car is a 87 Carrera 3.2 with 95000 miles.

1. long periods of non-usage with rust forming on lobes when oil-film dissapears.
2. Foreign-objects logged in-between. 3. Clodged oil passages. 4. Material failure. My vote is on 1.

I've got a little pitting as well so I'm interested what others may have to say. I asked a Porsche tech about it and he said it was not unusual and did not seem overly concerned.
As far as theory number one goes; my SC is pretty high mileage and no real short trips (while I've owned it anyway).

Pretty common.....could run forever that way........like you say keep a eye on it,,,,,cams are cheaper then whole engines (FOD)
