Thumbs up WEVO sway mounts - 'before' pic and installed pics

Had a little problem......sway mount bolts pulled right through the reinforced mounts. They weren't reinforced where the bolts attach
----------------------------------------

The solution....WEVO mounts
----------------------------------------

Took 4 hours to install. A 930 has a fuel pump on the drivers' side....right by the mount. Tricky stuff to weld. Old mount has to be entirely removed and the area thoroughly cleaned. Credit for the install goes to Redmond European, one of the very best shops on the Seattle east side -

I thought it would help those who install them.
Not easy to position and align side-to-side -

Does Wevo make the mounts for both pre and post '78, which is when the bolt spacing channged IIRC.

Can you post some pics of the driver's side with the fuel pump tray? I want to replace mine but keep the fuel pump in that location. I am still collecting ideas to make it happen.

Here is a picture as this last weekend's GAF. It indicates that it can be used in '72-89.

Thanks, Britain...as usually my brain is struggling to reconcile the many changes of Porsche.

see, for example, this post:

"That's correct '72 will have the narrow bolt spacing. If you put the WEVO mounts on your car, you'll need to change out the sway bar bushing mount to accept the wider spacing. I started with Smart Racing bars for a '72 (narrow spacing). Then I put WEVO mounts on and had to order a new bushing mount with wider bolt spacing.

So, if you are going to replace your sway bar mounts with ones that have wider spacing, you ordered the correct sway bar. Otherwise, you'll need to get the kit with the earlier bushing mount."

Difference in location of rear sway body mount between years?

Hayden, can you help sort this out???

I think the passage quoted above covers it.

The body pressed sheetmetal on the pre-'72 cars is different, the WEVO RARB consoles will not fit that configuration.

The '72 - '77 have same body sheetmetal as the '78 and later cars, but not the same bolt spacing on the saddle mount for the rear sway bar.

We elected to make the '78 and later version on the basis that most people who have torn the O.E. mounts off pre-'78 cars will have done so with non original sway bars.

If the demand is sufficient, we can make the '72 - '78 hole spacing version - it would be a simple variation on the machining drawing for the casting.

Perhaps even more exciting for those with pre-'72 cars is the liklihood that we will also make that early version sway bar mount with the same WEVO RARB console design / manufacturing process.

Regards

Hayden

So I have a 1970 chassis that I am restoring but all 1986 suspension that will soon be installed...aluminum trailing arms and weltmeister sway bars etc...

Will these brackets work? Will I be able to modify them or the chassis to make them fit?

Hayden, Thank you for the clarification. I would be interested in a pre-72 style for my 71.

Chris, the 71 and earlier tubs will not accept this mount. The longitudinal box section is wider on the later cars. This allows the pinch seam to get in the way of these mounts. The same is true for the later factory reinforced mounts. If you use the Welt. bars in 22mm they will likely tear out the factory mounts unless you use the torsion bar tube mount brackets. The factory 86 suspension will bolt up (with clearance issues inside the shock tube) if you use the early style sway bar bushing clamp/bracket with the shorter bolt spacing.

I'd like the post '72 and later mounts in a '72-'77 bolt spacing since we're making requests.

Hmm, the '70 chassis never had rear sway bars so I have to do something and I think that torsion bar bracket setup is one of the cheesiest things out there.

I guess I will have to fabricate something...

Agreed...it may work, but I have to avert my eyes it's so ugly.

I agree they are cheesy. I am not fond of the camber bolt fixing point either...

There was a post a while back about installing the later sway bar mounts to an early tub. It included shaving the pinch seam to make room. you could also fab an offset to clear the seam.

Jamie, Ira said you can mount the bars to the arms if you want. He said the drawback is that you lose some of the adjustability. I'm not sure how much, though.

If you are going to fit the later mounts on a pre-'72 chassis, make sure you bolt the new mounts up to the swaybar and offer it up for a trial-fit before you weld anything.

The reason is, if you weld the new mount flush to the old chassis, it will likely be too wide spacing for the swaybar.

Anybody have pictures of the drivers side (930) with the Wevo mount? Or some tips on how to install on a turbo? As mentioned above the turbo has a big bracket for the fuel pump right there, not only is it going to be hard to lay down a good bead behind that bracket, but you are right next to the fuel lines and it doesn't seem very safe without removing everything.
