![]() FYI, the [ img ]-tag somehow was cut from the post . .. allowing the [ url]-tag to be automatically placed (since w/o the [ img]-tag it's seen as just a web address.

Thanks Mark! Got "re-soloed" in Blue, and bumped up to Yellow today. A great weekend, weather-wise and driving-wise.

How do you guys like the track?
How fast is it? Is it used for TT? Is it too narrow for racing? For a little variety are your choices College Station or Houston? |

Not a fast track, but VERY technical. Off camber, on camber, increasing radius, decreasing radius, 70 ft of elevation change, etc. Its 40 ft wide, plenty for racing. PCA, BMW, NASA, CVAR, and a few others race there. The 1.7 mile CCW course was just approved by the SCCA.

Very cool thanks.
![]() I'm a little curious about how this track club is different than say a track in the So Cal area. Are any of you members in the track club? I think it was a few $1,000 to join? I did see the schedule a while back, seems every month the track has DE days. Are they popular, good car count? Is it different in the sense that at our local track an independent track group will rent the track and then sell spots to drivers. Do you see groups rent the track and then solicit cars? Is there racing there frequently? PCA, Viper club or other make groups? Or does the track membership create enough track opportunities be it DE/TT or racing? Can you post a link to the track? Looks like an awesome set up for the DFW sports car crowd. Sorry for all the questions, thanks for your time. |

I am a member and have even built a house right there on the track!
Here is a link to the track: www.motorsportranch.com Here is a link to my place: www.BigBendVilla.com Clubs rent out the track and then sell spots to drivers. With the addition of the second track they no have the ability to rent out one track while members are on the other. That will happen for the first time this Saturday, a driving school in on the 1.3 mile track and members will be on the 1.7 mile track. Races happen generally once or twice a month, less frequently in the winter and in the summer heat. The PCA is the most active group and 2 or 3 different regions hold events there. BMW club and the Lotus club also have races this year. Motorcyle racing is also held a few times a year. The whole calendar is up on their website. In the past, DE events sold out but this year has been slower. I think the second track and the ability to rent out more weekends has increased capacity to the point where sell-outs will be less frequent. That said, they are still well attended. Membership fees are up over $3K now, the exact figure is on the website. We also pay monthly dues and $20 for each 30 minute run session. Works just like a golf country club.

Also, what are the general fees you see clubs charging for a track day or track weekend? Here in SoCal I can run with various clubs for say $150-$200 per day for track fee and doesn't require membership of any sort. If I race every month, then I can see the obvious choice of a $2400 membership if there is some extra advantages to having the membership. But to pay $3K, then pay for track time, then pay monthly fees... I won't be racing much if I move out there! There is a point where the cost becomes silly...

Ed -
You didn't ask, but here is some advice: If you get track only wheels and tires you might as well go with track only tires - Kumho V710s. They last a long time, are not 'tempremental' as say a Hoosier, and don't cost a ton. I've had A032Rs, RA/1s and V700 as well as V710 tires - all for track use. V710s are my favorite BY FAR. They just are not very streetable.....

Driving as a member also gives you the advantage of being about to practice at 10/10ths and really push yourself. In a DE, most people (myself included) feel its safer to hold back a bit.

thanks for the feedback - I would probably be in the category of running with whatever club would allow me to come out and run 10/10ths in a specified run group without being w2w (other drivers can scare me a bit and I can't afford wrecks
![]() i.e. if I go out with the local ACRA/OTR group (the guys Jack Olsen runs with often - like today in fact now that I think about it) I can sign up to be in one of three groups (yellow = newbie, blue = intermediate and red = advanced/run with Jack) and get five 1/2hr sessions thru the day for $145. I have never been in a DE, so I don't know what that entails. Anyway, when my car is back together I will sort it in the blue group and run in the red group. Are you familiar with some groups/clubs out there that have this kind of format - open track, run without and instructor at your limit, in a category of similarly skilled drivers? Sorry for the hi-jack of your thread, but trying to gather as much info as I can before deciding to move out there...
