Welcome to the board! Want pictures of the car.
I would recommend 93 octanes, AND get the car checked by an experienced Porsche mechanic (hopefully already done that before you bought the car). If you do a 60K preventive maintenance job, you will then create a baseline for future work. |

93 octane, although the 964 model has knock sensors (not that I would rely on them)
Yes, do a 60K base maintenance, then you know everything is up to date!

Make sure you've got the distributor vent thingy done. I'm pretty sure that's the 964 "thing" that needs to be done.

Welcome. You need to post some pics of your ride-its an unofficial rule.
The BEST thing you can do right now is baseline your car. Change out things so you know everything is right. This way if you have a problem, you have already ruled out a ton of simple (relatively cheap) things. Unless you have records and know exactly when these things were done last, here's an incomplete shopping list: Oil Change, fully flush your brake fluid, cap & rotor, plugs, plug wires, O2 sensor, air filter, trans fluid (at least on G50's but I don't know about yours), and antifreeze ![]()

Of course at 60K miles you need to change your torque fluid.

I'm familiar with the DMF problem, the Cylinder head seal problem, and the distributor vent problem. All of which typically are resolved by now through records or not an issue (Cylinder head seal - not an issue for 92's). Other than the cases of premature valve guide wear - which you can't really diagnose unless you wobble the valve stems for have first hand experience with oil consumption - is this what you mean?

You need to re-torque the muffler bearings every 10k. Don't forget to lube the hufnagle valve. It is on the right side of the engine near the franastat attached to the pflugenhammerschatenmillerguvortenstein accessory pulley.

It's not the valves, but the combo of stem seals and valve guides. When Porsche switched to the Viton stem seals, it actually reduced the amount of oil feeding the guides and they wear out prematurely.
Not all cars had this problem. Mike

yea, i researched and found the 2 most requent failures on the 964 are the valve guides and the dual distributor belt, so i'll def have those checked. |
