Valve guide and seal going/gone? Rocker shaft has worked loose? Is the smoke coming out the exhaust or is it burning off the heat exchangers (heater boxes)?

Then I'll conjecture it's a valve guide and valve seal failure; if that's the case then valve failure may not be too far away. How many miles on the top end?

A loud nock with smoke from exhaust is usually not a good sign. Probably dont need to mention that ... Sorry but it could be a wrist pin gone so the oil would then be bypassing the rings into the combustion chamber. Or it could be a valve guide as mentioned which means you could drop a valve anytime.

Stop driving immediately and tow it to a shop for further investigation. I would say that the outcome is going to open your wallet up fairly wide.

Kevin,
That sucks a$$, man!!!! You just got the trans back in order too.
Hopefully it's just a temporary setback. Have you had the car jacked up in the rear for the trans work. Might have just had some oil drain WAYYYYY back into the cylinders and will burn off.

How does a loose rocker shaft result in oil in the exhaust?

Maybe after enough hammering on a loose shaft it could break important bits off of the head?

(sorry, early morning sarcasm outbreak...)

If the rocker shaft was loose or backed out, you would be DUMPing not dripping oil on you heat exchanger, been there done that ona cross country trip to boot. Eventually if the shaft backs out, and it is only restrained by one end, the seat where that end goes will break, that valve won't open you'll loose power etc etc. Oh and it will smoke a little Oh my ignored warning signs of this failure were, a mysterious oil drip that couldn't be found. Having said all that, if it is the rocker, that is a fairly cheap fix as compared to a rebuild, but it could send you to rebuild land as well!

car smokes more on startup but goes away eventually noise has gotten down to a softer hit but is def cylinder issue.

Going to try to sell engine and get something else i give up on it.
if i cant i will sell the car i am tired of it all its all roys fault and i am going to keep it personal.

i will try to sue MM and lets just say bad things happen to people everyday.

If you decide to sue, you'll need to have a professional, documented tear-down of the engine, especially cam-timing, tolerances, clearances, end-plays, torques, etc.
Without it, the judge cannot understand the issues and then it's just words without proof. Been there, done that.
I believe that dismantling the engine with a proper write-up by a licenced mechanic will bring results in court.
Dismantling is not that expensive; explain to the shop what you need and get an estimate of the cost.
This MM-thing is so frustrating and many people would like to see some effective court action. MM seems to get away with a lot because they know that most people don't have the time.

MotorScheister strikes again!!! I could slap an engine together with JB Weld and silicone gasket maker that would last longer than 4000 miles!!!

Seriously...we need to start a petition to Panorama to stop carrying this scam artist's ads! Until we do trajedies like this will continue. How many PCA members do you think we could get to sign it? Wouldn't a few hundred member signatures finally get them to take it out? Perhaps a flood of email requests?

Here's the email address for Panorama (include your member # so they know you're legit):

porpan@mindspring.com

Wow....PCA would have to turn down a chunk of cash. A full page ad in Pano costs over $12,000 per year! Has anyone tried to do a massive request to get their ads pulled?

When I see that big ad in my Pano each month I want to hurl.

FavRok01, didn't MM even remove your fuel distributor (which worked fine when you sent it in) and send the engine back to you with a completely different, non-running one? With different intake runners from a later SC too? We've never heard the full sordid story from you.

Why, you gonna hire a hit man? Bad things do happen, but try to look at the glass half full. If you and your family have health and happiness beyond this car/motor issue, why not dwell on the positive. (Listen to me, the most negative SOB around.....)

Take a breather and then find out what's the matter with the motor. You must do that anyway, whether you sue, sell or fix, or any combo of the 3. You might find it's a simple fix.

Let's hope. You know, putting motors together quickly ususally results in something left loose. I'll bet some locals would help you. I would if you were over here.
