my cabriolet STINKS need help

I did something stupid the other day and tried to redye the faded rear deck section of carpet under the plastic window and soaked about a quart of really smelly RIT dye ( smells like Great Salt Lake on a hot day) i believe now into the sound deadening layer directly under this carpeting. Now when I drive the car it recooks the mixture and if wafts up at the occupants and really reeks.
This is my first 911 and I haven't pulled up the carpet yet, but I'm wondering 1) if that trim piece screwed into the back securing th carpet has anything to do with securing the convertible top and 2) if I am correct in guessing that it is indeed the sound-deadening mat which is directly under the carpet in the back of my 86 cabriolet and if that is made of anything which might be removable and cleanable

Charles,
Sounds like you boyz in AZ, deal out some rather severe kitty discipline. R U sure you're not originally from Texas?

no not from texas..............but it worked. cats are a double edged sword here. pack rats everywhere! EVERYWHERE! will build nest in your car eat all wiring and leave you very pissed off and penniless. must leave hoods up on any car inside or out to discourage nest building. well we try and keep some cats around. ie mousers! well you know what males do.................! anyway it really did work..........poco goes the other way upon seeing us , mices are held in check and if i remember the pet urine stuff was made by hartz! downside to cats they become "COYOTE COCKTAILS" sooner or later..............then we have to fatten up another! its a viscious cycle living in the dez! 1st rattlesnake of the year seen in hanger yesterday ...........OH BOY! tastes like chickken!

That could be the weirdest thing I've ever read on here.

I had similar fading on my rear carpet and considered your solution. Instead I purchased replacement carpet from World Upholstery and tucked it in to fit. Did not fit exact, but it has been 3-4 years and so far, so good. Good luck!
