Difference between early and late oil level sender?

I've been redoing the oiling system in my 70 2.2E in preparation for starting after a 4 year slumber. I took the oil tank out and had it cleaned.

Pic of the newly cleaned tank next to the late tank attached. I am super happy with the result, as the 70 tank had a ton of water and sludge in it and looked 10 times worst than the other tank. Looks like new now!

The sender was shot (rusted at the very least) so I put in a spare I had from a 73+. It doesn't seem to tighten all the way down and Pelican has a different and twice as expensive part number for my 70.

Can I use the later sender? If so, do I just need a thicker gasket (cork or rubber) and more M5 washers?

I did a search, but didn't find anything.
