Window frame touch up?
 

Hey gents,
The paint around my window frames and door handles is wearing off and it's starting to bug me. I'm about to lay some blankets over the car do some masking and attack with a rattle can of flat black. Is there a better way or is it that simple?

I use a wide Sharpie to touch up the window trim.
Masking and taping would probably last longer, though. I thin ka light scuff with a Scotchbrite pad would be enough for the paint to stick well.

I concur - get one of those big, fat permanent black markers and have a go with that. Clean the frame up with denatured alcohol on a rag first. This worked well for me when I was touching up mine.

Okay, sounds easy enough. Did your results show any overlapping like brush strokes from coloring it on?

No, I just touched it up where the finish was rubbing off. Once I put some wax on it it blended in and was hard to see where it was touched up. I suppose one could do the whole frame if they wanted. The original finish is anodized, I think. I also used the marker to re-dye the weatherstrip around my sunroof - looks great! Another Pelican said the Testors gloss-black hobby enamel was a great touch-up paint for black Porsches, I'll try that next. I love a cheap fix.

Paint is wearing off?

The trim isn't painted from the factory. Do you mean the anodize is fading?

If so, I wouldn't spray paint it. You're just going to make it uglier, esp. when the chips start piling on. Very ghetto.

If its the original anodize, I'd either live with it the way it is and call it "patina," or take it off and have it reanodized or maybe powdercoated.

If you really do have paint on the trim that is wearing off, some previous owner put it there, so it's done, and there's no harm in repainting it.
