strut brace question and pics

I have recently bought a 'Sparco' strut brace from ebay and was wondering where to fit it.

Does it go on top of the towers like this:

The problem with fitting it like this is that the clamp holes do not fit onto the towers.

Or like this:

I asume that in order to get the rigidity required this fitting would be too high up and away from the towers

I would say on top of the tower, not the strut.

Jay,

We concur with the opinion that you DO NOT want to connect to the top of the shock/strut. IF POSSIBLE, can you add a piece of metal (like a small plate) to each end which will attach to at least 2 of the strut tower (hex head) bolts on each side?

My belief is that if you attach to only one of those hex bolts on each tower, under load your strut will tend to rotate away from the strut brace, and that would NOT BE GOOD.

just as I thought - thanks for the advice.

It seems odd that the bracket only fits to one bolt (normally they are 2 or 3 bolts)

I'll see if I can get a different bracket to use.

The elephant racing brace only uses one bolt and doesn't require that an alignment is done. If you remove two bolts then you must do an alignment.

look at weltmeisters site . has pictures of strut and mounts. this was all of a beer in labor and rather uneventful. but it sure looks cool with racey sticker on it! dont torque down endnuts just leave snugged down until aligned. then mark with white paint each side, after aligned and nuts torqued down. should never have to screw with it ..............ever! well maybe if you hit a curb????????YIKES!

This is a interesting post. I was curious about this exact thing. I'm going in to get my car aligned and thought about marking the locations on both sides. Then if it ever doesn't track right I could adjust back to line up the marks. Would that reset the alignment back to what the alignment shop set?

Unfortunately, on the older stock 911es, both front Caster and Camber are set from these socket-head cap screw bolts. So, even if you were to scribe, let's say, camber, one could not reliably duplicate BOTH settings by simply aligning the marks. At least, we have never been able to get the settings repeatable just by marking in two directions - you can get close, but to be accurate, one really needs a gauge.

My strut brace mounts on the two rear tower bolts, yours catching 1 rear bolt each side should be fine, do not mount on top of strut!!
