common problem?

Anyone experience back up lights inop on the SC and/or 915 cars? Does the $witch typically go bad, or the internal pin wear down, or both? Can't find much info on the probable cause. Would you be with me if I wired up that nice little toggle switch I've had just to get that SI sticker on the windshield?

Thanks :D

Might want to make sure the thing is still connected on that switch itself. It's located on the upper most part of the tranny right next to the shift rod going into trans.

Engine been out lately with transmission left in car?

Hey Jim,

The motor was out for a top end job. Do you suspect cut/unplugged wires? To be honest, I have not yet checked for power to the switch.

Crawl under the car and head for the nose of the transmission and check the two wires that plug into the reverse light switch. If memory serves me it's just to the left of the shift shaft. It should be covered with a rubber weatherproof cap so it may be a bit hard to find for the first timer. It's also a pretty tight fit to get to because of the transmission mount. If your connections look good and you suspect the switch, jump across those two wires to make the circuit. If the backup lights come on then I'd consider replacing the switch. Since the motor has been out recently I bet the wires are either broken or unplugged.

Like Motorhead-45 said, it's a very tight fit get at the switch and the wires. I forgot to fit the wire down along the tranny before raising the engine fully so I had to use a wire fish to pull it down to the tranny nose. Mine did not have a lot of slack and it was tricky getting the 2 individual plug contacts inserted in the switch using long needle nose pliers. I hope the shop just forgot to plug them in rather than a break in the wire.

Yes.

Highly unlikely that both backup lights went out together. I'll bet it's not pluged in.
