Polybronze bushing install help needed

I am planning to install reay polybronze bushings this weekend. Do I need to remove the torsion bars to get to them? My car ('88 Carrera) has the black stone guards on the fenders so this could be difficult. What do I need to do?

Thanks,
Bob

the rear spring plate can be taken off of the torsion bar but you need to remove the round torsion bar access cover to gain room. my torsion bars were stuck! to remove the bars or not the process is the same (you need room) so the outside cover has to come off.

You may be able to rotate the spring plate off the t-bar if the t-bar is set back all the way in the tube. On some of the cars, you can tap the t-bar toward the center and on some others, even beyond center. What does the Elephant site say?

Do a search using terms like Elephant, poly, Carrera, etc. Some info definately exists here in the archives.

BTW, I work on early cars, so your situation could be different.

Oh yea you probably will have to remove them if they are stuck to the spring plates.

Youll have to remove the rocker covers and the little round torsion bar access plates to slip the spring plates off. Check the archives if your torsion bars stick in the spring plates. (drill hole use a long drift.)

Fitting is critical as well as the greasing. Just follow the instructions. Level of difficulty with frozen spring plates 6+.

here is a pic. you can see how far off of the torsion bar you have to come to get the spring plate off. note the cover hole removed at the far right.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1145072751.jpg

RX911 - invest in a lite for your garage. All I see is black!

Bullet Bob, when you remove the black vinyl stone guard, be careful not to peel the paint off with it. Hit it brieflly with a heat gun or hair dryer to soften the adhesive. Ask me how I know!
