mounting Euro H4s-quick stupid question
My Euro H4s (black, not chrome...I'll put the trim rings on later)came with a plastic washer around the head of the single mounting screw (this is the screw with the hollow center to accept an outer screw for the painted trim ring) and a rubber piece around the screw inside the assembly.
Are these to be removed (were they just to make sure they was no damabe to the black ring and keep the screw attached)? Or are they left on in the installation?

If it's #22 or #7, mine have washers. This will prevent you from tightening the shoulder of the screw directly onto the painted or chromed headlight ring and damaging it.

You're supposed to take the black rubber thing off the screw. It's only there to keep the screw from getting lost before you install them.

Thanks for your reassurances. That's the beauty of this board. No matter how stupid the question, you can still get a reponse in under 10 minutes!
Trying to fit them, it was pretty obvious the rubber was just there to make sure the screw didn't get lost. I ended up taking the plastic piece off as well. I'm not sure I'd even call it a "washer," since it seemed to force the screw head to sit "on top" of the ring by about about 3/8". But I wasn't sure if that extension would eventually be needed for the painted trim rings. Wayne's article was great. The hardest part is making the screw is started properly. I found it helped to run the screw through the threads before even trying to mount the headlight, just to clean the threads out. And one was a tight fit with the new gasket, but pushing it down, you could feel when the bottom "popped" into place against the gasket. Of course, I ended up running the tip of one finger along something sharp (blood red against moss green metalic--an interesting color combination), but I typically bleed when I work on cars...I'm just a klutz who always has a current tetanus shot! In daylight, I adjusted the lights in the garage as I replaced them. I conservatively got them too low. Another adjustment tonight and I think they're pretty close. I try them for a week and see. Even with standard wattage bulbs, they are great upgrade. I may still pull them and try hooking up the low-wattage bulbs to the parking lights. I'll order the trim rings and have them painted when I have a body shop touch up the front end. By the way, I put the 7" round H4 replacement in my 68--I wanted to stay with the sugar scoops. They were also a good replacement.
