Another Porsche wheel is repro'd
There's another impostor out there, but luckily this one will be easy to spot. For 3 years I have been hearing of the repro Mahle Gas Burner being in the works. Last month I saw the wheels in person in Fontana. As expected, it's a heavyweight, even more so since the original is magnesium at only 9.7 lbs. The new fakes are just under double that weight.
They had a 4 bolt version there too that will fit 914-4s and VWs. It looked really odd. Anyone looking for a 5th wheel for a spare, this is what you need. Here's the co in the UK. It won't be long before there's a distributor over here: http://www.javaglobalenterprises.com/geebee.htm |

Wow, talk about an obscure market...well, atleast there won't be much competition.

Here's a low priced source in North America for these repros. A quick bead blast and some silver paint and they will look just like stock. $190 ea.
