Oil Pressure sending unit access

Has anyone change their Oil Pressure sending unit without an engine drop? I have a slight leak from the unit. I hate to have to drop the engine for that piece. I should have had it replaced when I had clutch work done on my 83 SC.

I was thinking about cutting a hole from the rear firewall and just plugging it up after so I can access the sending unit easily with out doing a drop.

Yes, did this last weekend on my '86
Get the misc. stuff out of the way and lodge yourself in there!

Caveat: I'm 5'11'' 135lbs (stringbean) and it was a little tight.

If you disconnect the shift coupler and pay attention to some of the other lines under the hood, fuel, electrical, oil and vacuum, you can then loosen the rear motor mounts and drop the motor down supported by a floor jack, with out a full R & R. It pivots and does place some stress on the transmission mounts but you are not going to be in there for all that long. Be careful not to pinch any thing in the process.

Depending on the year you will have to remove the A/C compressor, air pump and whatever. This facilitates access to all the good stuff at the front or the motor.

Is it perfect, no, but it will get you closer.

Partial drop, remove the shift coupler, watch the lines. Pull the intake air boot and you can get it with a crows foot. I just hope that your breather cover is not leaking as well, because you might as well drop the motor entirely.
