Clutch pedal return

Just finished rebuilding the pedal cluster and the clutch pedal needs to be pulled back about 1 inch with each shift. Shifts ok, but did I forget a spring? I adjusted it but seems strange to have to return the pedal. Thanks for the help!

yes i noticed the same thing after new clutch i think the free play is actually measured by pulling the pedal towards you i think i read that in the chilton manual maybe someone else could chime in on this who knows for sure on this (83sc)

get under the car with somebody inside to work the clutch. every time i have this symptom, it's the cable adjustment at the transmission (not saying it's not something else...). usually the 1mm gap adjustment nut gets loose. you'll see the extra movement in the omega spring when the clutch pedal is pulled up that extra inch. readjust to spec. 1.2mm with cable removed, etc.

I don't think that's accurate. The play should be measured until the clutch engages, i.e. pressure on the pedal.
