Stiff shifting out of first
I've not driven too many 911's other than my own, and only one other 915 gearbox l\ - thats what i have
The PO had the first and second sychros and bits rebuilt. I get no grinding or anything like that, and when I take it easy between shifts (1st to 2nd) it feels like whatever is engaging is sliding in between two lubricated plates of metal snuggly (if that discripition makes any sense:D ). Mind you it doesn't just flop into second gear, but requires a little push, and it snugs right in. When I get on the car and wind it up to 6k or so in first gear, that "snuggness" tightens up quite a bit and I have to use a fair bit more pull to get it out of first gear and to get it in to second. Now Im not speed shifting it or anything, but its like the wind up and torqing of the motor makes it stiffer to get from 1st to 2nd. Can the 915 people in the know tell me if this is normal or not. The rebuilt gearbox probably has 2k-3k miles on it now. Could a bad set of tranny mounts be a cause or is this just normal? |
There is no quick shift between 1-2 on a 915 tranny. Shift out of first, slight hesitation in neutral and then into second.
