Fuel Filter Problems...

So I couldn't figure out why the flow directions were different on my new and old fuel filters and also why the fittings would not fit on the new one.
Turns out they are different part numbers. It seems that my car (78) still has a '77 fuel filter on it and therefore will not accept one for a '78, man that sucks.
Anyone else seen this?
Hopefully our gracious host will exchange them...

Yes, in 78..maybe in 79 there are two different fuel filters that were fitted. Does not seem to be a logic or basis for which one is used. Pelikan will exchange. If you have the old one just give them the part number, if not do a search on here on fuel filter and you should find several threads that have the part number

Thanks Richard, Where I realized I ran into a problem was I referenced the car years in the Pelican catalog rather than the actual part numbers.
My next problem is that I puchased this from Pelican a lot longer than 30 days ago and I am just now getting around to putting it in... or at least I thought I was.

How often do you think you should change the fuel filter?

damn, maybe that's why the f/f on the car is nice and fat and the one that I ordered from Pelican uh...a year and half ago but never installed yet is skinny. Gotta check this out later today.

My car has ~84K on it and I assumed that iwas the original, so I would replace it. I will probably not replace it again for a long time...

Ruf, the way I noticed was that the two filters I have look the exact same, but the arrows on them showing the flow were in the opposite direction. This got me investigating and then I found out that both of the fittings would not fit onto the new one. Lastly, and of course last, I noticed the part #s were different.

given the poor quality of gas these days, plus the fairly low mileage we tend to drive our cars I would think it wise to change every 12-18 months

Fuel Filter For Sale!

Well, the "nice guys" were reluctant to exchange it (Due to how long ago I puchased it, although I never used it), so I had to buy another one and was socked $9 to ship one filter. What a racket!
Anyway, If anyone needs a Bosch Fuel Filter, let me know as I have one for sale.
