Alan, I believe the guy that came over to do the swap was telling you that you will need to add an externel oil cooler at the front of the car, to cool the 3.2 engine. I recently did the 2.7 to 3.2 conversion on my 75 and I had to add a front oil cooler, as well as lines that run to the front of the car. The thermostat that you are reffering to is also external, and you will need to purchase as well.

You dont HAVE to add the carrera oil cooler although it is a great upgrade. The factory had the trombone "cooler" on the 930's so it is not a requirement for the swap.

What oil line you select depends upon the exhaust and type of cooler that you will be running.

First, which exhaust are you going to run? If the '85 is stock, then you'll need the oil lines (2, I believe) for the '85 3.2. One line wraps from the sump around the back of the crankcase and then second is a soft line attaching that to the thermostat, assuming you are using an external factory-style thermostat, for your oil cooling.

If you are running back dated exhuast SSI or factory early Heat exchangers for the swap, then you'll use this part: 911-107-729-10-M20

Also, there are several oil cooler types. One is attached to the engine itself. A second is external, with hard lines running up the side of the body. I assume you have the external cooler with factory externally mounted thermostat and air to oil heat exhcanger (cooler)?

The stock 3.2 installations actually ran both types of cooler (engine + external). This is recommended for stock longevity and performance.

Please provide some more informatoin and we can offer a better recommendation.

Doug
